We Went to Nairobi!

It’s true, a year and eight months after we were married in the Green City Under the Sun, we finally went back to our Kenyan home in November 2022. It was very different! For one, Nairobi got bigger. For another one, Grace was bigger—carrying what would become our daughter, Maya. In case you haven’t been following along (and in hono(u)r of the revival of this blog), here is a summary of all of our Nairobi videos. (And if you haven’t been following along, kindly subscribe.)

A Drive Through Nairobi

We started things off with a driving video, catching glimpses of the new Nairobi Expressway and, of course, traffic.

Karura Forest

We went with Grace’s brother Griff and his girlfriend Maisha to this awesome forest in the northern part of Nairobi. If you think Kenya is just open prairies, think again.

Nairobi Street Kitchen

You know we had to try the latest fad in Nairobi dining, the Street Kitchen. Very Instagramable, with tasty food and drinks. We’re not sure it lives up to the hype, though. What do you think?

Bambino Latin Italian Kitchen

And speaking of food, we also had to try a spot not too far away from Nairobi Street Kitchen, and that was Bambino.

Kenyan Ex-Pats in the US

Kevin did some investigating while Grace was getting her hair done, and it turns out there are over 140,000 Kenyans living in the United States. He breaks down the geography and examines the trends.

Kevin’s Culture Shock Update

We couldn’t go back to Kenya and not have an update to our most popular video! Kevin lists six new shocking things—and Grace adds some shocks of her own about her own country.

Bonus: The Bomas of Kenya

We watched the performances at the Kenyan cultural center, and then Kevin got an impromptu music lesson from one of the vendors at the market.
