We knew it had been too long since we posted a video because we got an email from YouTube asking where we were. Finding the time to do everything we used to do, now that Maya is past the one-year mark, is starting to become easier, and Kevin was finally able to finish our last video about our trip to Philadelphia.
It was so cold when we went to Philadelphia, as it was January, the heart of winter in this part of the United States. The hotel was so cozy, it was hard to put on all the layers of clothing to go outside, but I am glad we did. Our first stop was the Liberty Bell, an important symbol of the American Revolution. I was surprised to find a large photograph of Nelson Mandela among the displays. It is always nice when Africa is represented somewhere you least expect it.
One of the highlights for me was going to the Fashion District mall. (After all, we love our malls in Nairobi.) I was really interested to see if they had anything good for Maya to wear, and I also needed to buy some shirts for myself. Kevin just looked at the random artifacts.
For lunch, we went to Reading Terminal Market. First, I am not sure why it is called “red-ing” and not “reed-ing”. But anyway, there were so many shops to look at, it was hard to decide on what to eat, let alone if we should buy anything else. One shop that was a bit curious was called “De Village” and featured imported items from mostly West Africa, from what we could tell. We decided just to get food, which was both affordable (I got a piece of chicken and two sides for $6) and delicious.
After we had walked and walked, we found ourselves back at our hotel, where they were serving complimentary wine to all the guests. I don’t take alcohol much at all, so Kevin enjoyed for the three of us.
It was a short trip, but very restful. And it’s not far from New York at all, less than two hour’s drive, so we will likely visit again soon.
The Storys Are Back!
There are so many videos we haven’t posted yet from the past four years (that’s right, our first video posted in September 2020!) that you will be seeing very soon. Thank you for your patience with us as we figured out how to have a family and our careers and our YouTube family (all 4000+ of you). We see lots of bright moments for us in the future, including bringing Maya to her second home, Kenya.
Thank you for watching.
